What Is God Saying to Us Through the Daily Office Readings?July 27–August 2, 2026

Monday’s Readings: Psalm 56; 2 Samuel 2:1–11; Acts 15:36–16:5; John 6:14–29

“In God I trust and will not be afraid.” — Psalm 56:4

Fear often tempts us to act quickly, take control, or strike back. Yet today’s readings remind us that faith is choosing to trust God even when the future is uncertain.

After the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, David faced a defining moment. Years earlier, Samuel had anointed him to be king. Now the throne appeared to be within reach. Rather than seizing power, David first sought God’s guidance. God directed him to go to Hebron, where the people of Judah anointed him king. Meanwhile, Abner crowned Saul’s son Ishbaal king over Israel. David resisted the temptation to force God’s timing through war. He trusted that the God who had called him would also fulfill His promise.

In Acts, Paul and Barnabas experienced a painful disagreement over John Mark. Their partnership ended, yet God continued to use both men to spread the gospel. Even faithful believers sometimes disagree, but God’s mission is greater than our conflicts.

John’s Gospel reminds us that following Jesus is not about seeking miracles or earthly rewards. Jesus calls us to seek the Bread of Life and to trust Him, not merely for what He gives, but for who He is.

The thread running through these readings is simple: trust God without fear. David trusted God’s timing. Paul and Barnabas trusted God even when relationships changed. John the Baptist remained faithful despite imprisonment and death, knowing that obedience to God was worth any cost.

As followers of Jesus, we will encounter disagreements, disappointments, and even opposition because of our faith. Yet Christ’s promise remains: “I am with you always.” We need not be afraid. Our calling is to trust, obey, and leave the results in God’s hands.

Prayer:
Lord, when I am tempted to act out of fear, teach me to trust Your timing. Give me wisdom when relationships become difficult, courage when I face opposition, and faith to follow wherever You lead. In You I place my trust and will not be afraid. Amen.
